In everyday conversation, yes — when someone asks us for a cement patio, we know they mean a poured concrete patio, and we're not going to be precious about the wording. Technically they're different things: cement is one ingredient, the fine grey powder that binds the mix. Concrete is the finished material — cement combined with sand, aggregate, water and, on every exterior pour we do, an air-entraining admixture for freeze-thaw resistance. So there's no such thing as a pure cement patio in a structural sense; what you're buying is concrete. The reason it matters at all is mix design: the ratio of cement to aggregate to water, and the air content, are what determine whether your Grimsby patio survives fifteen winters or starts flaking after three.
How long does a concrete patio take to build?
Most residential patios are excavated, formed and poured within two to four working days on site, depending on size, grade and whether steps or multiple levels are involved. We don't pour new concrete over old concrete — bonding is unreliable, and any movement or failure in the old slab telegraphs straight through the new one. The old surface comes out first. We handle that removal and the excavation ourselves, so it's one contract and one crew rather than coordinating two trades.
Do you repair or resurface existing patios?
No. Niagara North Contracting installs new concrete only. We don't offer patio repair, resurfacing or resealing. If your patio is sound and simply looks tired, a resurfacing specialist will serve you better and cost less. If it's cracked, heaving or holding water, the base has failed and a rebuild is the honest answer.
