Concrete Patios

Serving Grimsby, Beamsville, Vineland, Jordan, Smithville, Stoney Creek, Hamilton and St. Catharines since 1987.

Niagara North Contracting designs and pours custom concrete patios for homeowners across the Niagara Region and Hamilton area. Every project starts with a proper excavation, a compacted granular base, and control joints placed to manage Southern Ontario's freeze-thaw cycles. The finish — stamped, exposed aggregate, coloured, or broom — gets chosen to fit the home and how the yard is actually used. Call 905-971-5397 or request a free on-site quote.

Why concrete

Why Homeowners in This Area Choose Concrete

A patio handles more daily wear than most parts of a property. Regular outdoor meals, kids on bikes, a firepit, furniture sitting in the same spot through an entire season. Concrete handles that kind of use reliably.

Homeowners in Grimsby, Stoney Creek, and St. Catharines tend to settle on concrete for straightforward reasons. It's one continuous surface, so there are no individual pieces to shift or settle unevenly after a hard winter. The finish gets built into the pour itself rather than applied afterward. A properly designed mix with air entrainment holds up to the freeze-thaw swings common from November through March in Southern Ontario. And there's no annual re-leveling or joint sand replacement that paver patios typically need over time.

Finishes

Patio Finishes We Install

We handle new construction only. Every project starts from scratch.

Broom-Finished Concrete

A clean, textured surface that's slip-resistant and straightforward to maintain. The most practical choice for family patios that see bare feet, pool traffic, and everyday outdoor use.

Stamped Concrete

Patterned to resemble natural stone, slate, or brick — without the ongoing joint maintenance those materials require. A common request in established neighbourhoods where resale value and street presence matter.

Exposed Aggregate

The top layer is washed back during finishing to reveal the natural stone within the mix. Gives a textured, natural look that suits rural properties and wine-country lots throughout Lincoln and Vineland.

Coloured and Integral-Colour Concrete

Colour mixed directly into the concrete or applied as a surface hardener. Earth tones and grays are the most requested, chosen to work with the home's siding, brick, or landscaping.

Multi-Level and Custom-Shaped Patios

For sloped yards or lots where a single flat slab doesn't work, we design stepped or tiered patios that follow the existing grade rather than requiring major regrading.

Services

Concrete Patio Services

Every service listed below is a new build. Niagara North Contracting does not offer patio repair, resurfacing, or resealing.

01

New Residential Concrete Patio Installation

Full-build patios for single-family homes, sized around how the household uses outdoor space — dining, lounging, a firepit area, or a combination of all three.

02

New Commercial Concrete Patio Construction

Outdoor seating and gathering areas for restaurants, cafés, and multi-unit residential properties, built for higher foot traffic and everyday commercial wear.

03

Stamped Concrete Patio Installation

Textured, pattern-stamped surfaces styled to resemble natural stone, slate, brick, or cobblestone.

04

Exposed Aggregate Patio Installation

A finish technique that reveals the natural stone within the concrete mix, adding texture and slip resistance to the finished surface.

05

Coloured and Integral-Colour Concrete Patios

Colour integrated into the concrete or applied as a surface hardener, in tones chosen to match the home's exterior and surrounding landscaping.

06

Multi-Level and Sloped-Lot Patio Installation

Stepped or tiered designs for yards with grade changes, built around the existing slope rather than leveling the site entirely.

07

Patio Additions to New Construction

Extending a patio footprint as part of a new build or addition project, poured to connect seamlessly with the surrounding slab.

08

Poured-in-Place Concrete Steps and Landings

Steps, transitions, and landings poured as part of a new patio installation to connect the surface to a deck, door threshold, or yard grade change.

09

Custom Patio Design and Layout Consultation

On-site planning for irregular shapes, curved edges, built-in seating walls, and multi-zone layouts — all discussed before excavation begins.

10

Concrete Patio Drainage Planning

Grading and slope built into every pour from the start, directing water away from the foundation rather than letting it pool against the house.

11

Decorative Concrete Borders and Edging

Border details poured as part of the patio to create a clean separation between the concrete surface and adjacent garden beds or lawn areas.

12

Patio-to-Deck and Patio-to-Foundation Tie-Ins

Grade and elevation matching where a new patio meets an existing deck, walkway, or house foundation.

Process

How We Work

Site Visit and Design

We walk the property with you before anything is priced. That means checking drainage, soil type, and grade, and talking through how the space will actually be used. Clay-heavy soil, common in parts of Grimsby and Hamilton, gets handled differently than the sandier ground found elsewhere in our service area. That gets factored in from the first visit.

Permits and Utility Locates

Where a municipal permit applies, we handle the application. Utility locates are arranged before excavation starts on every project.

Excavation and Base

We excavate to the correct depth for a patio slab, then place and compact a granular base in layers. This step is what prevents future settling and cracking. It's not one we cut short.

Forming and Reinforcement

Forms are set to your design's exact lines and curves. Steel mesh or rebar is placed where the design calls for it, and control joints are laid out to manage natural concrete shrinkage rather than letting random cracking develop.

Pour and Finish

Concrete is placed, screeded, and finished using the method specific to your chosen style. The surface cures properly before it's ready for furniture and foot traffic.

Service area

Where We Build Concrete Patios

Grimsby

Waterfront properties and established residential streets mean working around mature landscaping and existing hardscaping. We plan layouts that connect to what's already in place rather than forcing a standard footprint onto a lot that doesn't suit one.

Beamsville and Lincoln

New builds and larger rural lots are common here, which typically means more room to design bigger patios or multi-zone outdoor spaces — a dining area, a firepit section, and a separate lounging space, for example.

Vineland and Jordan

Estate homes and vineyard properties in this area tend to favour exposed aggregate or natural stone-look stamped finishes that sit well against the surrounding landscape.

Smithville

Larger rural lots call for patios sized to match. Layouts here often get planned around existing outbuildings or yard access points rather than a standard rectangle.

Stoney Creek

A mix of established Hamilton-area neighbourhoods and newer subdivisions. We see both clean installs on recently built homes and projects on older lots where the yard is getting a proper outdoor living area for the first time.

Hamilton — Ancaster, Dundas, Westdale and Surrounding Areas

Century homes with tight backyard access and new-build subdivisions both fall within our Hamilton work. We know the range of lot conditions and permit requirements across the city's neighbourhoods.

St. Catharines

The largest city in our service area, with everything from mature tree-lined lots to new development on the city's edges. Every patio gets sized and designed to the property.

What Goes Into a Concrete Patio Quote

Every quote comes from an on-site visit. Size, finish, equipment access, and site prep all affect the final number, and none of those can be assessed accurately over the phone.

A written estimate from Niagara North Contracting accounts for:

  • Square footage and slab thickness
  • The finish selected
  • Site access and the amount of excavation the yard requires
  • Any grading or drainage work needed before the pour begins

We provide a written, itemized quote before any work starts. No verbal estimates, no guesswork.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions About Concrete Patios

How long does a new concrete patio take to install?

Most residential patios are formed and poured within a few days, with curing time afterward before the surface is ready for furniture and foot traffic. Larger projects or detailed stamped designs take longer, and we'll give you a realistic timeline during the site visit.

What's the difference between stamped and broom-finished concrete?

Broom finish is a flat, textured surface applied while the concrete is still workable — simple, durable, and cost-effective. Stamped concrete uses textured mats pressed into the surface while it's still pliable to create a pattern that resembles stone, slate, or brick. Stamped work costs more because of the additional labor and detailing involved.

Do I need a permit for a new concrete patio in Ontario?

It depends on the municipality and, in some cases, the size of the patio and its proximity to property lines. We check permit requirements during the site visit and handle the application if one is needed.

Can a concrete patio be poured against an existing deck or house foundation?

Yes. This is a routine request. We grade and slope the slab so water is directed away from the foundation rather than pooling against it.

What time of year is best for pouring a concrete patio in Ontario?

Late spring through early fall gives the most consistent conditions for curing. Pours can be scheduled outside that window depending on the weather forecast, and we'll advise on timing during your consultation.

Do you repair or resurface existing concrete patios?

No. Niagara North Contracting focuses on new patio construction only.
